{ SIZZIX } How to Make a Butterfly Card

Are you a fan of butterflies? I wanted to show you how you can make a card really cute by keeping the card itself quite simple and adding a butterfly and a decorative die-cut title. Just in time for summer birthdays!

How to Make a Butterfly Card using Sizzix die

Products used:
Sizzix® Big Shot™ Express Machine Only or Sizzix® Big Shot™ Plus Machine Only or Sizzix® Big Shot™ Machine Only
Sizzix® Accessory - Standard Magnetic Platform for Wafer-Thin Dies
Sizzix® Thinlits™ Die Set 11PK - Birthday Numbers
Sizzix® Bigz™ Die - Mariposa
Cardstock, patterned papers, vellum paper, acrylic paint, glitter washi tape, fabric button and stapler

Method:
1. Make card from card stock and let a few drops of acrylic paint.
2. Add an extra pop of colour by adding a strip of patterned paper and glitter washi tape.
3. Round the corners.
4. Die-cut two butterflies from patterned paper and vellum. The butterflies are die-cut with Sizzix® Bigz™ Die - Mariposa, but you can use other butterfly dies as Vintage Butterfly, for example.
5. Layer the butterfly, bend to give dimension.
6. Take some loose thread and glue it on the back of butterfly. Adhere together on the card.
7. Die-cut the "today" using Sizzix® Thinlits™ Die Set 11PK - Birthday Numbers and apply using stapler and staples.
8. Print or stamp the sentiment. Adhere the sentiment strip.
9. Add a fabric button to finish.

{ SIZZIX } Funny Emoji Cards by Elena

Hi everybody! Elena here. This week is the first week of summer. Yay!  It means plenty of sun, good weather, holidays and children without school. As usual, we have to plan some activities to do with the kids, and crafting is one of the most popular things to do with them.
Today I want to show you some funny emoji cards you can make with you children using Essential Dies.

Sizzix Products:

in_love_emoji_card

Emojis are very easy to recreate, as they are formed with very basic shapes as circles, hearts, stripes.
In these examples I have used the Circles and hearts Framelits and the circles in the Owl Bigz die to recreate three of the most used emojis. To make the card shape, the smile, the tongue, and the winked eye I have used the partial die cutting technique that I have showed you in my last post. Is is so useful!

I have made three Emoji cards, but you can make lots of them, just be creative with your dies!
Happy crafting and happy summer!

{ SIZZIX } Tissue Paper Tealight Holder by Clare Cosens

Hello…this week I have been using a Sizzix® Bigz™ Die, Tattered Florals by Tim Holtz® from our Essentials Range to create a tealight holder. This is perfect for anyone looking to add a splash of color to their home.

Blog4

To make a tealight holder you will need:
Glass Tealight Holder
Paint Brush
The Sizzix® Big Shot™ Machine is perfect for die-cutting multiple layers. You can cut over 100 layers of tissue paper at a time when die-cutting a simple shape such as a circle. I have die-cut 12 layers using this die.

Blog1

Die-cut multiple layers of the small flower shape. I have used three different colours of tissue paper for this project.
Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the glass tealight and begin to attach the tissue paper flowers.

Blog2

Overlap the flowers so there are few gaps in between. Alternate the coloured flowers to create the desired effect.

Blog3

When the tealight is completely covered, apply a final layer of Mod Podge and leave to dry.

Blog5

Pop in a flameless tealight and enjoy!

I filled the fun pineapple favor boxes with candies.
I used the Pillow Box Bigz L die and the leaves from the Bigz Die - Build a Bloom - Daisy to create these pineapple favor boxes.

To create the cards invitations: a touch of color with watercolor and to create the pineapple I used an oval from Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 7PK - Stitched Ovals and again the leaves.

{ SIZZIX } Clamshell Make Up Bag

As it's nearly time for me to have a holiday I thought it would be nice to have a new make up bag -

Make Up blog2

and although it has a little bit of patchwork on it, it's quite an easy make as the patchwork is appliqued on -
To make this bag you will need -
2 pieces  20 x 10cm (8" x4") of cotton print fabrics for clam shells
Fusible web - 20cm x 20cm
1 piece 65 x 43cm (22" x 17") plain pale grey cotton
Wadding - 28 x 43cm (11" x 17")
30cm (12") white zip
Pale grey thread for stitching
Sizzix® Big Shot™ Machine (660200), Sizzix® Big Shot™ Express Machine (660850) or Sizzix® Big Shot™ Plus Machine (660020)
Sizzix® Bigz™ Die 2" Clamshell

Cut the wadding into 2 pieces 28 x 21.5cm (11" x 8 1/2")

clamshell make up bag 2

Pin this onto one piece of wadding and then stitch around the shells using a zig zag stitch -

Cut a small clamshell in paper and use it as a template to draw, using an air or water erasable pen, the clamshells onto another piece of plain grey (this will be the back of the bag) -

Then zig zag around the lines to create the appearance of clamshells -

Make the zip tags by pressing a 1cm fold on each short end, and then pressing in half -

Pin to the end of the zip -

and then carefully stitch across the zip -

Check the length of the zip against the bag front and trim if necessary -

and stitch the tag to the other end, and then lay the zip, RS down, onto the bag front, RS up, matching the tape edge to the edge of the fabric -

then lay the lining onto and pin through all layers.
Carefully stitch the zip in place using a zipper foot on the machine, you will need to slide the zipper head out of the way as you stitch. The bag will look like this -

Now repeat with the other side of the zip -

Make sure that the zip is half open before continuing.
