{ SIZZIX } Clamshell Make Up Bag

As it's nearly time for me to have a holiday I thought it would be nice to have a new make up bag -

Make Up blog2

and although it has a little bit of patchwork on it, it's quite an easy make as the patchwork is appliqued on -
To make this bag you will need -
2 pieces  20 x 10cm (8" x4") of cotton print fabrics for clam shells
Fusible web - 20cm x 20cm
1 piece 65 x 43cm (22" x 17") plain pale grey cotton
Wadding - 28 x 43cm (11" x 17")
30cm (12") white zip
Pale grey thread for stitching
Sizzix® Big Shot™ Machine (660200), Sizzix® Big Shot™ Express Machine (660850) or Sizzix® Big Shot™ Plus Machine (660020)
Sizzix® Bigz™ Die 2" Clamshell

Cut the wadding into 2 pieces 28 x 21.5cm (11" x 8 1/2")

Pin this onto one piece of wadding and then stitch around the shells using a zig zag stitch -

Cut a small clamshell in paper and use it as a template to draw, using an air or water erasable pen, the clamshells onto another piece of plain grey (this will be the back of the bag) -

Then zig zag around the lines to create the appearance of clamshells -

Make the zip tags by pressing a 1cm fold on each short end, and then pressing in half -

Pin to the end of the zip -

and then carefully stitch across the zip -

Check the length of the zip against the bag front and trim if necessary -

and stitch the tag to the other end, and then lay the zip, RS down, onto the bag front, RS up, matching the tape edge to the edge of the fabric -

then lay the lining onto and pin through all layers.
Carefully stitch the zip in place using a zipper foot on the machine, you will need to slide the zipper head out of the way as you stitch. The bag will look like this -

Now repeat with the other side of the zip -

Make sure that the zip is half open before continuing.

{ SIZZIX } Fabric Flower Brooch by Clare Cosens

To make this Flower Brooch you will need:
A Selection of Fabrics
Big Shot™ Machine
Sizzix® Bigz™ Die – Build a Bloom
Fusible Web
Brooch Pin
Hot Glue Gun

Fabric Bond
I started by preparing my fabrics. I wanted my finished petals to be double-sided.
Using Fusible web I attached my fabric pieces back to back, so that the pattern is visible on both sides.

Next, I die-cut both of the leaf shapes and the flower centre shape.
To construct the centre of the flower, I rolled the die-cut shape and used the hot glue gun to secure. I continued this process until I was happy with the size of my flower centre.
Flower petals
I then began to place each petal onto the flower centre using a hot glue gun.
Flower Petals 2
When complete a die-cut two leaf shapes and added these to my flower design.
To finish, I used a hot glue gun to adhere a brooch pin to a small circle of card. This was then attached to the base of my flower.

I have pinned my brooch to my daughters bag to embellish. The perfect fashion accessory for her summer party!
